Marcus Mumford & Major Lazer Perform New Collab On Instagram Live

Marcus Mumford and Major Lazer's Instagram Live performance was the perfect way to kick off another weekend of social distancing.

On Friday (March 27), Marcus joined a solo Diplo on iHeartRadio's IG for his first Instagram Live ever — yeah, he literally joined Instagram two days ago — to perform their new collab "Lay Your Head On Me." But, before the Mumford & Sons singer joined the chat, Diplo had a Q&A session with iHeart's Emily Curl where he revealed how the single came to be.

"We had a song, a demo and we hit up [Marcus'] management and he really liked the direction," Diplo continued. "He's a collaborative guy, he had been in Africa a bunch, Senegal, and he's a music fan 100% and we spent some time online going back and forth. ... He rewrote the song then tried his voice on it. Then he came over to my studio a couple times and we just finished it. I had no idea when we finished it, it would be coming in a time like this but I'm just happy to get it out. "

He added, "When I put on paper a 'Major Lazer and Marcus Mumford song' you never would expect what you've heard but I think it's a great combination of our styles."

Diplo also opened up about the track's music video, saying the original shoot was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, he said that while they didn't get to make the video they planned they're "going to find a way to do [one] without leaving the house."

"So we're going to make it still... it might take a little longer," he explained.

Marcus then joined Diplo for the Instagram Live where he performed an acoustic version of their collab and additionally performed a cover of Bruce Springsteen's classic hit, "I'm On Fire," with Diplo doing the background vocals.
