Mick Jagger Finally Responds To John Mulaney's "Not A Nice Person" Critique
John Mulaney made his interactions with Mick Jagger a part of his comedy routine during his 2019 "Kid Gorgeous" special, and it wasn't a glowing take on the rock legend. In the bit, Mulaney discusses famous people who hosted "Saturday Night Live" when he was a writer there. "My friends were all like, 'Is he nice?' NO! Or maybe he is, for his version of life, ‘cause he has a very different life. He's Mick Jagger!...He’s played to stadiums of 20-thousand people cheering for him like he’s a god for 50 years. That must change you as a person." Seven years later, the "New York Times" asked the Rolling Stones frontman his opinion on the bit. While Mick said he'd never seen it, he did allow that Mulaney may have a point. "Obviously, it’s not normal," the musician said of his life. "It is not like most people’s lives. It does affect you. You can become disassociated...you get disassociated from what people might call 'real life'...I mean, you do fight against it. It’s a conscious effort."

JOHN MELLENCAMP: He's Off and Dancing
John Mellencamp is back on the road with his first amphitheater tour in 17 years.
Dancing Words - The Greatest Hits tour got underway Friday in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the Acrisure Amphitheater, and, just like his open rehearsal show last Wednesday in Evansville, Indiana, Mellencamp did 26 songs spread over two sets. During the opening song, "Lawless Times," he said, "Good evening, I'm John Mellencamp. And, as you guys know, I'm not for everybody. Just like you guys are not for everybody. You guys are probably the outliers of the world. The people that see a brick wall, and think 'how the [hell] am I gonna get through this thing?' And you figure out how to do it on your own! "And it's just crazy enough, that these are the people that really make a difference in the world. The people who think outside the box, the people who go a little bit harder, go a little bit tougher and don't pay any attention to the [bleeping] rules..." This was Mellencamp's first time playing all his hits in quite a while, and the set remained the same on Saturday at his show in the Chicago suburb of Tinley Park, Illinois. Going into this tour, he felt it wouldn't be difficult performing these songs once again.
"People are very nostalgic. Particularly, you know, people of our generation. I've noticed that even in the theater shows [that] whenever I play an old hit record people seem to respond positively."
Show number-three is Monday (tonight) in Kansas City, Missouri, followed by Shakopee, Minnesota on Tuesday; Clarkston, Michigan Thursday; back home in Indiana in Noblesville on Saturday; and Cincinnati on Sunday. The tour runs through August 12th in Mountain View, California.

R.E.M.: Another Athens Reunion
Three members of R.E.M. got together to back one of their closest friends last Thursday night at the Rialto Theater in Athens. It was billed as a show by Steve Wynn and guitarist Peter Buck, who were going to debut songs they'd written together this year. But it ended up being a full band concert with Wynn and Buck backed by their Baseball Project bandmates Mike Mills,
Scott McCaughey and Linda Pitmon. Plus R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry played percussion on a handful of songs as well. Wynn wrote that this group will be headed to "Chase Park studio here in Athens today [Friday] to record a bunch of new songs we've written together over the last few months...We aired out six of the songs on stage last night at the Rialto Theater and they felt great so I'm very excited to get going. Nothing like making new music with good friends and I can't wait to lay it all on you sometime very soon. Roll tape!"
