Remember a couple years ago when Led Zeppelin somehow wriggled out of a copyright lawsuit from Spirit guitarist Randy California over the opening to "Stairway to Heaven"?
In case you don't, here's the gist of the situation: Randy thinks it sounds a lot like Spirit's song "Taurus" and that Jimmy Page stole it while the two bands toured together in the late 60's.
Personally, I was surprised Zeppelin got out of the suit without paying Randy a boatload of cash the first time, but it seems the jury was not allowed to actually hear the two songs in court. They were only allowed to see the sheet music. Raise your hands if you know more than a couple people in your life that can read sheet music, much less twelve that would randomly be picked for a jury.
Anyway, I have a feeling the jury will get to hear the songs this time and Zeppelin may need every dollar they make from their 50th Anniversary celebrations to pay Randy's bills.
